Reutimann on Truck Pole at California Written by: Tom Jensen Fontana, Calif. – 2/24/2006 David Reutimann led a Toyota 1-2-3 sweep as he captured the pole for Friday night’s Racetickets.com 200 , NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at California Speedway with a qualifying lap of 178.980 miles per hour in his Team Tundra Racing Toyota. Reutimann, who drives for three-time NASCAR Nextel Cup Champion Darrell Waltrip, knew his truck was fast as soon as he took his warm-up lap. “It was a good lap,” said Reutimann. “We didn’t really know what to expect, but you can kind of tell what you’ve got on your up-to-speed lap, and that felt really good. … It was as good as we could have run.” Reutimann led fellow Toyota drivers Mike Skinner and Ted Musgrave, who were second- and third-fastest, respectively. Skinner ran 178.253 mph in his Toyota-sponsored entry, while Musgrave, the reigning series champion, qualified at 177.932 mph in his Team ASE/Germain Motor Co. Toyota. Jon Wood was the lone non-Toyota driver to qualify in the top five, as he put Wood Brothers/JTG Racing Ford on the outside of row two, with a lap of 177.681 mpg. Musgrave’s teammate, Todd Bodine, rounded out the top five at 177.681 mph. The fastest Chevrolet among the 36 qualifiers was sixth-place Mike Bliss, who was followed by last week’s winner, Mark Martin. Rounding out the top 10 were former series champs Jack Sprague and Ron Hornaday, Jr., followed by rookie Aric Almirola. Failing to qualify were Kraig Kinser and Wayne Edwards.
