Mayfield misses deadline for Daytona post-entry
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Jeremy Mayfield has missed the deadline to enter his car into Saturday night's race at Daytona International Speedway. He had an afternoon deadline Thursday to bring the No. 41 Toyota to the track, and it passed with no sign of Mayfield or his race team. Mayfield's indefinite suspension for a failed drug test was lifted by a federal judge on Wednesday, allowing him to race this weekend. He still can race if another team gives him a seat in a car. But four team owners who might have considered using Mayfield this weekend have said they aren't interested. NASCAR.COM - Mayfield misses deadline for Daytona post-entry - Jul 2, 2009

It doesn't surprise me that Mayfield didn't present a car for inspection. He didn't have enough time to prepare a car for Daytona.
I'm sure he'll have a car ready for the next event if the injunction stands.

That doesn't surprise me one bit -- Mr. Mayfield is one hot potato these days and I don't mean drooly upon wise, either.

![]() I really didn't want it to get canceled after it was confirmed that Mayfield was gonna race this week.

Kyle Busch stops by medical center after hot sports-car stint
By Bob Pockrass - Associate Editor scenedaily.com Saturday, July 04, 2009 DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch says he will be ready for the Coke Zero 400 tonight after being administered some intravenous fluids as a precautionary measure following about a 70-minute stint Saturday in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series Brumos Porsche 250 at Daytona International Speedway. Busch, who teamed with Scott Speed in a Chip Ganassi Racing entry, went straight to the infield care center following his time in the closed-cockpit car during a day when the temperature outside was in the mid-90s and it was much hotter in the car. “[it was] very, very, hot in those cars,” Busch said. “Just the biggest thing was to get some fluids back in me since I know I lost a ton of fluids. The faster you can get to the medical center after getting out of the car the faster I could get taken care of and get some rest before tonight’s race.” Busch qualified the car and started 10th, which is where he and Speed finished the event. Busch had never driven a car in the Grand-Am series. “We ended up getting our way back up to fourth or fifth I believe and then I kept missing some of the breaking zones due to downforce,” Busch said. “These cars are just so much different. I was off in Turn 1 also and that’s why I just wasn’t able to keep the brakes on the car. “I did finally find a rhythm from about the fourth to maybe the 18th lap and got fairly comfortable. … It was fun.” Probably not the smartest thing for Kyle to be so active this weekend. He raced last night, he raced today, and he's racing again tonight. I know he's young, but that has to take a toll on a body. Right now I'm glad I didn't pick him for my top 5 pick, though he'll likely prove me to be a fool for saying that. lol
