Default Gordon Back for More

Gordon Back for More

Managing Editor

Jeff Gordon is returning to his roots once again at Eldora Speedway.

After having a blast last year in his first trip in 14 years to the historic speedway, Gordon decided to come back for more.

Even after being off the dirt for years, Gordon was able to quickly pick up on the past and finish third in the 2007 Prelude to the Dream.

"We've done some midget races and some silver crown races in the past and I've run a winged sprint car here too," Gordon said. "It was a good race car and I was just playing catch-up all night long. I was just trying to learn this type of a car, but in the feature I was having a blast."

On Wednesday night Gordon will be back with Late Model team owner Clint Smith. This is the same team that Gordon started fourth with, led lap 11, and challenged eventual race winner Carl Edwards throughout last year's race.

"I'm super-excited about going back this year," Gordon said. "Clint Smith and those guys did a heck of a job last year and I'm looking forward to having some fun with them this year. Hopefully, we can have another great run."

Prior to last season, Gordon was last victorious at Eldora in the midget portion of the USAC Four Crown Nationals in 1991.

Now Gordon hopes to become the fourth different Prelude winner in as many years. But more importantly, he's out to help a great cause at the same time.

Proceeds from the HBO Pay-Per-View broadcast will help support construction of Victory Junction Gang Camp II in Kansas City.

"To get the fans out there and have that organized and then go out there and have so much fun and see the grins on all these drivers faces for all the fun they're having and raising money for a great cause," Gordon said.

"Obviously, children and those dealing with life-threatening illnesses, that's extremely important to me," Gordon added. "It's what the Victory Junction Gang Camp is all about and it's what Tony is all about. And we have an amazing community of drivers and team owners who love to give back, and to me, that's as about as a great of any event as you can have in one day."
