Rahal's son to make Pro Series debut at Indy
Posted 6/8/2006 8:45 PM ET INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Graham Rahal, the 17-year-old son of car owner and former Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby Rahal, will drive in the IRL's Indy Pro Series Liberty Challenge before the U.S. Grand Prix next month. He will become the youngest driver in the history of the developmental series. The 25-lap race on the 2.6-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course will be July 1, a day before the Formula One race. Last year's winner was Marco Andretti, an IndyCar rookie this season and runner-up to Sam Hornish Jr. in the Indy 500. The younger Rahal, who competes in Champ Car's Atlantic series this season, will drive at Indy for the Kenn Hardley Racing team. "I think it will be challenging, but I'm with a great team and can't wait to test later on this month," Rahal said Thursday. "My goal is to reach the highest level as a professional race car driver. The Indy Pro series will give me a very valuable experience, which will help me move up the ladder in open-wheel racing." His father, co-owner of Hilliard, Ohio-based Rahal Letterman Racing, won the Indy 500 as a driver in 1986 and as an owner in 2004 with Buddy Rice behind the wheel. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/motor...l_x.htm?csp=34
