He could have been hung out at that point and wouldn't have had enough time to recover.
I see what you're saying, and yes it could have happened that way, unless Tony and JJ were able to stay on the bottom the entire last lap and pull far enough ahead of Kyle and Denny that they couldn't reach them.

What I'm trying to say is that there is no way of knowing if the same opportunity would have been there on the last lap.

Oh, I agree completely.
First of all, I don't even know if Denny could have kept Tony from getting in between him and Kyle because I didn't see a clear replay of that part of the last lap.
Besides, I'm thinking JJ would have jumped on Tony's rear bumper had he been hung out by Denny.
