BROOKLYN, Mich. - One day after celebrating his 29th birthday, Carl Edwards went out and celebrated his first NASCAR Nationwide Series win at Michigan International Speedway after leading five times for 71 laps in Saturday's CARFAX 250.

Edwards moved within 113 points of Clint Bowyer for the series point lead with his victory.

"Thanks a lot, guys. It means a lot to win here," Edwards said over his car radio to his team as he crossed the finish line.

The win was Edwards' first Nationwide Series triumph at Michigan, where he won in the Sprint Cup Series last season.

"This is awesome to do this, to be here in Ford's backyard," said Edwards. "Ford's making a comeback and so are we."

Edwards was on cruise control most of the day with only an errant piece of paper on his front grill a conern throughout the 125 lap race.

But Edwards was able to survive and feels the win could be the first of the weekend at MIS.

"I definitely think we have a great chance to win Sunday as well," said Edwards. "This track has always been a Roush track and we have some great power under the hood tomorrow as well."

Brian Vickers, driving for Braun Racing Saturday, finished second.

"It was a good run. You don't want to get greedy, but you get sick and tired of not winning one of these races," Vickers said. "It seems like we lead a lot of laps. We just can't seem to lead the right one."

Tony Stewart, Mark Martin and Greg Biffle rounded out the top five.

Mike Bliss, Joey Logano, Jason Leffler, Kelly Bires and Bowyer rounded out the first ten.

The Nationwide Series now heads to Bristol Motor Speedway next Friday night.
