Mansfield on 2010 ARCA Schedule

TOLEDO, Ohio - Mansfield Motorsports Park in Mansfield, Ohio, is the latest facility to confirm an ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX event to its 2010 racing schedule. The second annual Tim Richmond Memorial ARCA 200 is slated for Saturday evening, July 17, 2010.

Building off of a successful 2009 ARCA race date at Mansfield, the event will be named in honor of the on-track accomplishments of the late Tim Richmond, a notable racecar driver and Ashland, Ohio, native who died of AIDS in 1989. Like many aspiring stock car racers, Richmond's racing resume included a stint in the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX, where he won the ARCA 200 at Daytona International Speedway in February of 1981 in only his career first Series start.

"Mansfield Motorsports Park represents a key addition to the 2010 schedule and we look forward to working with Joe Mattioli, Mike Dzurilla and everyone at Mansfield," said Ron Drager, president of ARCA. "Tim Richmond won the 1981 ARCA 200 at Daytona and won in supermodifieds at ARCA-owned Toledo Speedway so we certainly recognize the motor sports accomplishments he achieved both locally in the Ohio area and nationwide. We look forward to building on the tradition of ARCA Racing at Mansfield Motorsports Park established in 2009."

The ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX's 2010 appearance to Mansfield Motorsports Park features a slight format change, as the race date has been pushed back one month from June to July, but will feature the same competitive, side-by-side short track racing that ARCA race fans are accustomed to. This year's event occurs during an "off weekend" for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, allowing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series participants and fans the opportunity to be a part of the second annual salute to Tim Richmond's legacy.

"We are excited about the return of the Tim Richmond Memorial Race to Mansfield Motorsports Park in 2010 because if you are a fan of motorsports this will be the place to be," said Lee Tasseff, president of the Mansfield/Richland County Convention and Visitors Bureau. "It will be a very big weekend for racing in Richland County with the Super Cycle Weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course happening as well. Add in Rock N Ribs at North Central State College for great night time entertainment and you have the makings of a massive Mansfield motor sports weekend--yet another example of why we are America's Best Motor sports Experience."

The 2009 edition of the Tim Richmond Memorial ARCA 200 included up-and-coming racing stars such as Penske Development driver Parker Kligerman, who won the race just 24 hours after participating in high school graduation ceremonies, along with rookie Joey Coulter, 16-year-old Roush Fenway Racing development driver Chris Buescher and Eddie Sharp Racing's Justin Lofton, who finished fourth en route to clinching the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series Driving Championship.

Tickets to the July 17 ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX race at Mansfield Motorsports Park are available at Mansfield Motorsports Park or by calling the track at (419) 524-0183.

The 2010 ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX kicks off at Daytona Int'l Speedway on Saturday, February 6 with the 47th running of the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200. The entire 2010 ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX schedule will be released on arcaracing.com in the coming days.
